SHELTON C. SMITH died suddenly at his home in Shreveport, Louisiana on August 31, 2003 from a heart attack.  He was 66.  Shelton died 4 months after attending the 2003 GAYP National in Anderson, South Carolina where he finished a close second in the minors.

He was Louisiana State Champion three times (1979, 1981 and 1982.)

A frequent player on the internet, Shelton was a top player in the Kings room where he played under the names lairdandlady and _s_smith.
